I’m Adam Bell, Lib Dem member and campaigner for wind power. This blog is intended to collect my political & philosophical thoughts – preferably in the most pompous manner possible – focused loosely around the theme of language in both subjects. Hence ‘Decline of the Logos’; wherein Logos is to be read in the Platonic/Aristotelian sense of an argument from reason, or the use of the actual meaning of words within argument. I’ll be frequently arguing that this is no longer the case in much of contemporary political discourse, because there’s no better reason for blogging than an inflated sense of one’s own self-importance.
always thought you should be a political journalist
Blog? You kept this one quiet.
It’s been fed to my Facebook page this entire time. I scorn your lack of stalking.
I fed your blog into wordle.net and the results are surprising. The most used word is LABOUR!!!

That is disturbing. What’s more disturbing is that my writing style includes a penchant for ‘rather’ and ‘however’. And, indeed, ‘something’. I must learn new words.
Adam, To save me trawling through all the Adam Bells on Facebook, could you send me the link and I will ask you to be my friend but not necessarily ask you to share a hotel bedroom with me? Also see my web site http://www.libdem-ccn.org.uk All comments welcome. David Pollard
“I’ll be frequently arguing that this is no longer the case in much of contemporary political discourse”
You think it wasn’t always thus?
Plato and Aristotle, remember, were rather disdainful of the windbags and (literally) sophists who made a mess of Athenian politics…
You miss out the second part of that sentence: “because there’s no better reason for blogging than an inflated sense of one’s own self-importance”
Replace the word ‘blogging’ with ‘philosophising’ and you’ll see why the title of the blog references the ancient Greeks…
Brilliant
